Senior Public Relations Officer and Communications Team Lead at the Centre for Management Development (CMD), under the Office of the Presidency, Bukola Oloba, has emphasized the pivotal role of internal communication in driving economic resilience and institutional advancement across federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
Speaking as lead presenter, addressing a packed auditorium of civil servants at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, Mrs. Oloba underscored that effective internal communication is more than a support function—it is a strategic necessity in today’s evolving service economy.
“The service industry—whether in Nigeria or globally—is evolving rapidly. Technological advancements, shifting market demands, and changing work cultures are placing new pressures on organizations. In this new reality, effective internal communication is not just a human resource function—it is a strategic imperative,” Oloba said.
Drawing on global research and her extensive experience coordinating communication and training programs for public institutions, she urged MDAs to adopt transparent, timely, and purpose-driven communication strategies.
“During periods of reform or crisis, the organizations that thrive are those with strong internal communication channels. These structures help retain top talent, encourage innovation, and allow for rapid adaptation. Communication is the oil that keeps the engine running smoothly,” she added.
Oloba further called on public sector leaders to recognize employee communication as a critical lever for national development.
“In the service economy, people are the product. And the way we communicate with them will determine the strength, adaptability, and future of our institutions.”
Her presentation received widespread commendation from attendees, with many civil servants highlighting the urgent need to reposition communication as a central pillar in public service reform and economic strategy.
