ODIGBOSE: THE PLAY” SET TO PREMIERE OCTOBER 17 AT MUSON CENTRE, LAGOS

The historical stage production seeks to reclaim Africa’s narrative of the transatlantic slave trade through drama, music, dance and storytelling.

History will come alive as the much-anticipated historical stage production, “Odigbose: The Play,” premieres on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Agip Hall, MUSON Centre, Lagos.

Written by tourism and cultural entrepreneur, Otunba Dr. Chief Olawanle Wanle Akinboboye, the production seeks to present the history of the transatlantic slave trade from an African perspective, highlighting the continent’s experiences, cultural heritage and resilience in the face of one of history’s most painful chapters.

Produced by Atunda Entertainment, the stage play is described as “The First African Account of the Slave Trade,” with a narrative designed to encourage deeper engagement with Africa’s historical experiences and the enduring consequences of slavery.

The production promises a compelling theatrical experience featuring dramatic performances, traditional chants, African music, dance and storytelling. Through these artistic elements, it seeks to portray the capture, suffering and forced transportation of Africans while celebrating the courage, dignity and enduring spirit of a people whose history remains central to global conversations about identity, heritage and historical justice.

Beyond entertainment, Odigbose: The Play aims to promote historical awareness, particularly among younger generations, while encouraging Africans to preserve their collective memory and take greater ownership of their historical narratives.

The production also seeks to stimulate conversations about the human cost of slavery, its lasting impact on African communities and the importance of telling historical stories through authentic African voices and cultural expressions.

The premiere is expected to attract traditional rulers, theatre practitioners, historians, scholars, cultural ambassadors, members of the diplomatic community, captains of industry and other enthusiasts of African history and heritage.

The event is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. prompt on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Agip Hall, MUSON Centre, Lagos.

Reservations and confirmations can be made by contacting +234 913 055 4013.

With its blend of history, culture and theatrical expression, Odigbose: The Play seeks to offer audiences an opportunity to reflect on the past, celebrate African resilience and preserve the stories that continue to shape the continent’s identity.
