The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says it has identified, apprehended, detained and queried an officer captured in a viral video alleging extortion of a motorist.
The police disclosed this in a post shared on its X handle, @PoliceNG_CRU, noting that the case was under investigation.
According to the Force, the Lagos State Police Command will make public the full outcome of its findings as soon as investigations are concluded.
NPF said that the Inspector-General, Mr Olatunji Disu, reiterated the force’s commitment to accountability and professionalism, stressing its zero tolerance for misconduct.
The development follows a viral video shared online by a motorist identified by the handle @epiccycl, who accused the officer of harassment and extortion in the Idimu area of Lagos.
In the video, the motorist alleged that he was stopped by the officer despite having complete vehicle documents and was accused of a discrepancy in the colour of his car.
He said the officer insisted that the vehicle was grey rather than ash as stated in the documents and threatened to arrest him over the issue.
The motorist further claimed that the officer initially demanded N30,000 to settle the matter, which was later reduced to N10,000.
The incident has since sparked public reactions on social media, with many calling for disciplinary action against officers found guilty of misconduct.
The police had assured the public that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
