Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group, have arrested two suspected armed robbers during a patrol in the Odogunyan area of Lagos State, recovering a locally made cut-to-size Danne gun and three live cartridges.
The suspects, identified as Arowolo Damilola, 32, and Adewale Adeyinka, 29, were arrested during a crime prevention patrol as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to tackle crime and criminality across the state.
According to the Police, the suspects attempted to flee after sighting the security team while carrying a handbag, arousing the suspicion of the operatives.
A search conducted on the handbag reportedly led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size Danne gun and three live cartridges.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators.
She said: “As part of the sustained efforts to combat crime and criminality across Lagos State, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, in collaboration with the local vigilante group, have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally made cut-to-size Danne gun as well as three live cartridges during a crime prevention patrol in Odogunyan area of the State.
“During the patrol operation, the operatives intercepted the two suspects, who were carrying a handbag and attempted to flee upon sighting the security team. They were swiftly apprehended, and a search conducted on the handbag in their possession led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size Danne gun and three live cartridges.”
The spokesperson identified the suspects as Arowolo Damilola, 32, and Adewale Adeyinka, 29, adding that they would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
“The suspects are currently in custody and assisting the Police with ongoing investigations, after which they will be charged to court accordingly,” she added.
Reacting to the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, commended the operatives and members of the local vigilante group for their vigilance and effective collaboration, which led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the firearm.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and warned criminals to steer clear of Lagos.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, has commended the operatives and members of the local vigilante group for their vigilance, prompt response and collaboration, which led to the successful arrest and recovery.
“He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Lagos State and warned criminal elements to desist from all forms of criminal activities or face the full weight of the law,” the statement said.
