Leading telecom giant, MTN Nigeria in its stride to promote quality education for national development has rewarded St. Lawrence Metro College in Ado-Ekiti with a N10 million educational intervention project following the emergence of one of its students, Oreoluwa Alayande, 14, as winner of the 2025 MTN Spelling Bee competition.Commenting during the presentation ceremony at the school in Ado-Ekiti, the Sales and Trade Development Manager of MTN Nigeria in Ekiti, Chinyere Ikechi, said that MTN decided to support the school in recognition of the student’s outstanding performance in the national competition.She explained further that the spelling bee attracted thousands of entries from students across the country, saying that Alayinde distinguished herself through confidence, intelligence and exceptional academic ability.Continuing, Ikechi, highlighted the intervention projects to include the installation of 10 new air conditioners for the school’s computer laboratory, a 30KVA lithium inverter battery system, 10 brand-new laptops, broadband devices and other educational equipment.According to her, the initiative reflects MTN’s commitment to promoting education and investing in institutions that nurture young talents.She commended the winner for bringing honour to her family, school and the nation, while also revealing that she would a one-day Chief Executive Officer of the telecommunication company on March 11, 2026 and impulse ambassador for the next one year.However, understanding the role of quality education in nation building and developing country like Nigeria, the giant leading telecommunication company, MTN has performed excellently, being at the forefront in terms educational intervention and other empowerment that promotes self-reliant for job creation.
