The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has announced that the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration CVR exercise will resume on Monday, May 11, 2026, in what it described as the third and final phase of the registration cycle.
INEC said in a statement signed by the Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, on Tuesday that the second phase of the exercise had been suspended on April 17, 2026, to allow the Commission clean up the register following its publication for claims and objections by registrants.
The final phase will run from May 11 to July 10, 2026, and is open to all eligible Nigerians who have attained the age of 18 as well as those who were unable to register during the earlier phases.
Registered voters who wish to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards, or correct errors in their biodata are also advised to take advantage of the window. They may do so either through INEC’s dedicated online portal at cvr.inecnigeria.org or by visiting any INEC State or Local Government Area office nationwide.
Following the close of the registration phase, INEC said it would display the Register of Voters for claims and objections from July 23 to July 29, 2026 — a statutory exercise the Commission described as a critical opportunity for citizens to scrutinise the register and help guarantee its accuracy and credibility.
“The Commission reassures Nigerians that all necessary arrangements have been concluded for the smooth conduct of the exercise,” INEC said, appealing to all eligible citizens to present themselves for registration and play their part in strengthening the foundation of the electoral process.
The resumption of voter registration comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties already selling nomination forms and aspirants declaring their candidacies across the country.
