The Chairman of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa, Mr Alfred Charles, said the council has supported indegent students in the area with 100 million naira through Education Trust Fund initiative of his administration.
Charles disclosed this to Journalists in Nsit Ubium LGA of the state.
He further stated that the council had carried out maiden scholarship awards to 53 students from Nsit Ubium in 2025, adding that the council paid for one year, tuition fees and text books for the students.
The Council Boss said another 50 students would under go scholarship this year by August to make it 103 scholarship for students before the end of his administration.
He said that education system “is considered one of the highest and most important agenda of his administration”
“Education is a top notch in my administration.
“What the trust funds will do is to help educate our people more, the council will have a specific fund to help students who do not have privilege but brilliant or their parents who are not boyant enough to sponsor their ward education,” Charles said.
He urged individuals who see the needs and love education to also contribute to the funds or sow seeds to the education funds.
He said that the administration has passed a bill in the council, which every political office holders contributes one per cent to the trust funds.
Charles said the council’s education policy aligned with Gov. Umo Eno- led administration ARISE Agenda.
“Our plan is every year, this year by August precisely, we are going to set up empowerment programmes,” he said.
Charles also said that he has bought 200 new computer systems for JAMB – UTME, adding that he has also bought JAMB forms for over 200 indigent students of the area last year.
He said that his administration was building Urua Ntakrok (Market) in Ikot Ubo, in Nsit Ubium local government area of the state, adding that the project nearing 10 per cent completion.
The Council Boss further said his administration was carrying out landscaping and beautification project at the council Secretariat.
