Lagos State University on Monday conferred the rank of Distinguished Professor on Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, and renowned scholar, Professor Rafiu Olaoluwa Okuneye at its 29th and 30th Combined Convocation held at Epe Campus.
The Governing Council said the honour was in recognition of their “research efforts and scholarly contributions” and “meritorious service to mankind and LASU.”
Prof. Okuneye, of the Department of Human Kinetics, Sports and Health Education, graduated with First Class from OAU in 1987. He obtained his MSc and PhD from UNILAG in 1988 and 1992. A Professor since 2008, he served as Dean, Head of Epe Campus, and pioneer Director of Quality Assurance. As National President of NAPHER.SD, he facilitated the inclusion of Physical and Health Education in JAMB UTME from 2022.
Prof. Olatunji-Bello, LASU’s 9th Vice-Chancellor, holds BSc, MSc and PhD in Physiology from UI and UNILAG. Under her leadership since 2021, LASU emerged *Best University in West Africa on UI Greenmetrics 2022-2025 and Most Sought-After University in Nigeria in 2025/2026 with over 85,000 applications. She has published 63 papers and supervised 57 postgraduate students.
Both were admitted to the rank with all rights and privileges attached.
