MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) says investment in its workforce remains central to achieving operational excellence, describing employees as the company’s greatest asset for sustainable growth.
The Managing Director of MEDL, Dr Ernest Mupwaya, said this while receiving a delegation from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) at the company’s headquarters in Enugu.
MainPower, a subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), is responsible for electricity distribution in Enugu State.
Mupwaya said investing in human capital was essential to achieving strategic objectives in the highly regulated electricity distribution industry.
He said professional human resource management remained fundamental to building resilient, productive and competitive organisations.
According to him, effective leadership, a skilled workforce, sound organisational culture and talent development are critical to business success.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, innovation and customer-centerd service delivery.
“Having competent, motivated and adaptable employees, supported by effective human resource leadership and professional institutions such as CIPM, is critical to driving organisational transformation and contributing to national development,” he said.
Mupwaya commended CIPM for its sustained efforts in promoting professionalism and ethical standards in human resource management across Nigeria.
He also expressed the company’s willingness to deepen collaboration with the institute in leadership development, employee capacity building, succession planning and staff engagement.
Earlier, Chairman of CIPM, Enugu State Branch, Mr Francis Uka, said the visit was part of efforts to strengthen partnerships with organisations and promote best practices in human resource management.
Uka, accompanied by a member of the institute’s Governing Council, Mr Christian Onwumeremadu, said the engagement would foster professional interaction and knowledge sharing on emerging workplace trends.
He said the delegation also interacted with MainPower employees and encouraged eligible staff to join the institute to enhance their professional competence and career progression.
Highlights of the visit included discussions on workforce development, organisational performance and the role of human resource professionals in advancing institutional growth.
