Held under the theme, “Campus to Career: Navigating the Path to Success”, the program equipped over 500 maritime students with practical knowledge and tools to excel in the workplace.
Building on the success of previous editions, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic training and industry expectations by exposing students to real-world insights from professionals.
Delivering a panel session on conflict management, Mrs. Tawakali Toriola, Founder of Oasis Mediation and Solicitors, emphasized the importance of resolving disputes effectively in both academic and corporate settings. This knowledge will help students manage conflict better in the workplace and understand how it impacts productivity, both in school and on the job,” she said.
The event featured Mrs. Bamgboye, Co-Founder, Dola Bamgboye Foundation as the lead speaker, Mrs. Ajo Balogun, Co-Founder, JobRed, and Hon. Bethel as panelists. The Speaker and panelists engaged students on navigating corporate culture, innovation, entrepreneurship, and the personal attributes required to thrive after graduation.
Speaking on the impact of the program, Mr. John Okeleke, Head of Department, MTBM, noted that the lecture series has evolved from a departmental event into a strategic platform for industry engagement. This is the fourth edition. What began as a departmental program has grown into a bigger vision. The benefits have been significant. We are seeing improvements in the quality of graduates we produce, the exposure they receive, and the commendations from employers of labor.
One of our core objectives is to align with the highest standards of education in Nigeria’s maritime industry. We want our students to go beyond classroom learning and be fully prepared for career development,” Okeleke stated.
Also speaking, Dr. Buhari Sodiq, Faculty Member, FCFMT, said the 2026 edition focused on preparing students for life beyond campus. The Speaker and panelists emphasized what is obtainable in the boardroom, how to position oneself, and how to drive innovation and disrupt the status quo. We also addressed the ‘X-Factors’; the personal qualities individuals need to succeed.
Our goal is to ensure that when our students transition from campus to career, they are well-nurtured and equipped to fit into any role whether as an entrepreneur, a partner, or an employee,” Dr. Sodiq added.
The event reaffirmed MTBM’s commitment to producing graduates who are industry-ready, innovative, and equipped to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s maritime sector.
