A Nigerian aspiring fashion designer based in the United States, Sheriff Shittu, was fatally shot at a Brooklyn nightclub, following a confrontation with a drunken patron who allegedly groped his girlfriend.Police said the shooting occurred around 4:25 a.m. Saturday at Quilox Restaurant and Lounge in East Flatbush on Church Avenue near 95th Street. The gunman opened fire inside the club and fled the scene. He remains at large.Shittu had visited the club with his younger brother, Fawaz Shittu, to celebrate a friend’s birthday, just a day before their mother was due to arrive from Nigeria.According to Fawaz, the incident began when an intoxicated man started touching women inappropriately, including Sheriff’s girlfriend. Sheriff intervened, leading to a physical altercation. The brothers initially left the club but returned shortly afterward when they realized Sheriff had forgotten his phone.“When we came back, the owner was saying, ‘Don’t mind him — he’s a crazy guy,’” Fawaz recounted. “A few seconds later, I heard a gunshot. I looked down and saw my brother.”A bartender reportedly performed CPR before emergency responders rushed Sheriff to Brookdale University Hospital, where he later died. His family briefly kept him on life support in hope of recovery.Family members questioned how the suspect was able to bring a gun into the club, alleging inadequate security checks.Sheriff, who moved to the United States from Nigeria in 2018, worked as a security guard while building his fashion brand, Riff Ent. His family described him as warm, protective, and ambitious.Tragically, his 60-year-old mother, Foluke Shittu, learned of his death shortly after arriving in the US for a planned visit. “My son was a very kind person. We spoke on Friday, and I arrived on Sunday. That’s when they told me,” she said. The family is calling for justice and urging authorities to apprehend the suspect.
